Notes on SCC mtg. held October 27, 2005

- A literacy tutor has been hired to help with first grade. It is Mary Harper. She has attended STARS training to help children individually. She is here three hours a day. She has specific guidelines to track students. She is also helping three 3rd graders and two 2nd graders who have been identified to receive extra help.

- Math tutor – We have discussed having a math tutor help with third graders. Our hopes is to hire Mrs. Leavitt to help. She will be working closely with the third grade teachers to help those children who have been identified as needing help.

- Technology – Microsoft Office has been installed on all the computers in the upper lab. We also have Mathblasters installed as well. Our school is in the final thirteen schools applying for a grant that may put a computer in every child’s hand…year by year. We are proposing to start with fourth grade and each year move up one grade. This would be an intensive training, but beneficial to having technology used in the classroom. We will keep you updated on this. Our final proposal is due November 18th.

- Mary Harper and myself will be looking at an evacuation plan. We have heard that Casacade has one that works, so we will be looking at that one first. We will let you know what we find out.

- Applying for workshops, etc. – Each grade level has $200 to attend workshops during the year. You will just need to come to a SCC meeting and ask if it would be ok to attend. Let us know…money is there for you!!

- Our meeting schedule for the next few months is as follows…

December 15 – 3:30
January 19 – 3:30
March 2 – 3:30
